They don’t compete. They complement each other.
People often ask what it's like having two dogs.
The truth is, I don't think there's one answer.
Sometimes personalities clash.
Sometimes they simply coexist.
And sometimes ...
... it just clicks.
When Frannie joined our family, I hoped she and Kira would become friends.
What I didn't expect was the partnership that would grow between them.
They couldn't be more different.
Kira is thoughtful, independent, and usually one step ahead of me.
Frannie approaches life with endless enthusiasm and the confidence that every adventure is going to be the best one yet.
Somehow, those differences work.
On the trail, they each have their own rhythm.
Sometimes Frannie runs ahead, eager to see what's around the next corner.
Sometimes she turns around to make sure Kira is still coming.
Other days, Kira takes the lead and reminds Frannie that experience counts for something, too.
They don't compete.
They complement each other.
Watching them together has taught me that being a team doesn't mean being the same.
It means knowing when to lead ...
... and when to follow.

Looking at it now, I don't just see two dogs standing on a rock.
I see years of shared adventures, quiet understanding, and a friendship that somehow keeps growing.
Sometimes Frannie is the big sister.
Sometimes it's Kira.
Neither seems to mind.
Somehow ...
